The Story

Celestial objects had special roles in our precolonial culture, from representing gods and goddess, to guiding their livelihoods, be it seafaring or farming.

Tala means “bright star” in Tagalog, and she is also the goddess of the evening star. Being an archipelago, many of our ancestors were seafarers and used the stars to guide their journeys by night.

The Tala Necklace features a starburst symbol in white mother-of-pearl set against the swirling blue colors of paua abalone, symbolizing the goddess’ guiding light, our own light, as we navigate through the ocean of life.
